The third quarter-final of the day saw USA cruising to victory over Thailand, with a convincing final score of 65-10.

After a slow start from both teams, USA’s Abigail Dunkin took the lid off the basket with the first two points of the game. After this USA seemed to calm down and take control, winning all four quarters, 17-2, 14-2, 14-4, 20-2. Their experience showing and proving too much for Thailand with points coming from across the board.

However, throughout the tournament, Thailand have never backed down and they were not going to start now. They battled through containing USA to only 31 points at the half, the lowest a team have held them to yet. But despite the brave display by Thailand, USA showed their depth to move in to the semi-finals.

Commenting on her team’s performance, USA’s Alejandra Ibanez, said, “We have a pretty young team so it’s good seeing all our nugget players getting on court and getting some minutes. The game today was a lot about discipline and learning a lot about how we played with each other. It’s been good to work with each other over the past few days at the tournament and it’s allowed us to see where we are with the development in our programme and allowing us to learn how it can mash into our senior.”
