The 2023 IWBF Women’s U25 World Championship is set to proceed, with its new start date now scheduled for Wednesday 4 October 2023 at a new location in Bangkok.
The event faced an unexpected setback when the Indoor Huamark Stadium sustained structural damage due to adverse weather conditions. The relocation of the Championship was required, and it will now take place at the Bangkok Youth Center (Thai – Japanese). To ensure to accommodate the games that have had to be rescheduled, adjustments have been made to the tournament schedule.
For the events taking place on Wednesday 4 October the following schedule has been established:
|Court 1||Court 2|
|16:00: GER vs THA||16:00: RSA vs CAN|
|18:15: AUS vs GBR||18:15: USA vs ESP|
|20:30: THA vs RSA||20:30: CAN vs GER|
The exceptional circumstances mean that the logistics and availability of the new courts are being finalised therefore, details regarding the schedule for the remainder of the competition will be communicated separately tomorrow.
IWBF Secretary General, Norbert Kucera, emphasised:
“First and foremost we are extremely grateful and lucky that no one was seriously injured in the accident at the venue today. The safety and well-being of our participants, officials, volunteers, and spectators remain our paramount concern. Although this relocation poses challenges, we are unwavering in our commitment to ensuring a successful and safe event for everyone involved. We are grateful for your understanding and flexibility during this time and eagerly anticipate an exciting and resilient competition in our new venue.”
Kucera also expressed his immense gratitude to the Thai Local Organizing Committee and Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) for their swift response and effective action in relocating the event and finding a solution that has allowed the Championship to continue as planned.
Please stay tuned for further updates and information on how to follow the games.
