Japan got their first win of the 2019 Women’s U25 World Championship in the opening game of day two in Suphanburi, Thailand against South Africa. Japan pushed out to a massive lead of 20-4 in the first quarter. Bouncing back from their defeat at the hands of Great Britain the day before, Japan defended well ensuring South Africa remained scoreless in the second and fourth quarter, to assist them to a comfortable win, 81 -8.

Japan’s, Amane Yanagimoto, who was influential in the game for Japan’s win with 14 points, 7 rebounds and 11 assists, said, “We are happy because we got the win, but we need to do certain things better. We need to improve our shooting percentage and we need to be more accurate with our passing to each other to continue to get better as a team.”
